OUR SUMMER PROGRAMS

ENTREPRENOW PROGRAM

EntrepreNow is a four to six week summer program designed to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship among the Territory's youth.  The program was established in 2016 as a collaborative effort between the Economic Developmental Authority, Enterprise Zone Division; the Public Defender's Office; and the non-profit, Youth Arise, Inc. for young men between the ages of 15 and 19 years. EntrepreNow was piloted on St. Thomas the Summer of 2016 and has been territorial for the past three years.

It is a program designed to assist young men to set personal and professional goals; build self-confidence; be proficient in resolving conflict; develop the skills to prepare a resume and conduct a job search; create and develop a business plan and develop other essential life skills.

Selected through the Department of Human Services, the Public Defender's Office, the Guidance Counselor of their respective schools the students participate in a variety of activities related to their chosen career tracks.  These career tracks have included, but were not limited to, video gaming design, restaurateur, carpentry, plumbing, residential painting, auto mechanic, architectural engineering; landscaping,  fashion design, computer information technology, aviation and fire services. Our young men had the opportunity to do apprenticeships in the respective business interests with local entrepreneurs that are already established in that particular industry. These young men also had opportunities to discover information about their past as an individual and as a member of this Virgin Island Community as they tour the Genealogy Libraries, Museums and historical sites of the Territory.

NATIONAL CENTER FOR CONSTRUCTION EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

WE ARE PLEASED TO ROLL-OUT OUR

ACCREDITED VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

Vocational Skills are becoming rare in the face of our rapidly growing technological world. Skills like Carpentry and Welding are rapidly being replaced by large factory equipment, so that our youth are not equipped with the skills; nor do they have the ability to experience the joy of building things with their own hands from scratch. The other arts such of Plumbing and Electrical Work are also dying as our youth seek other technological opportunities.

It is our goal to bring back those skills and ensure that our youth are not only equipped with the knowledge and skills of those industries, but are also equipped to start their own businesses in whatever trade they choose. We are a NCCER ( National Center for Construction Education and Research) certifying institution and therefore, the training that each individual will receive is standardized and nationally recognized training with the additional benefit of entrepreneur training.

We just completed our 6 week "Introduction to the Vocational Courses " ( Plumbing, Carpentry, and Electrical Work) in March 2019 and again in our Summer Dreams and Vision Program. However,  in December 2019, WE OPENED THE DOORS for the main Vocational training course - concentrating on Plumbing, Carpentry and Electricity.. the FIRST Class  will be graduating in August of 2020. OUT-OF-SCHOOL SUSPENSION PROGRAM

At Youth Arise, Inc.  We realize how important an education is in this day and age.  We also realize that our youth can get side-tracked and run off course in a direction that can get them into trouble.  Our mission is to provide our youth with every opportunity to get on track and to achieve their full potential.  Therefore, rather than our youth stay at home or even worse, hang out on the streets if they get suspended from school, we are offering an alternative- a place for them to come during that period of suspension to be mentored and to receive help with their class assignments so that they don't fall to far behind. We will also offer continued assistance to those in need of mentoring and tutoring.

CULINARY ARTS

At Youth Arise, Inc. proper health and nutrition are very important components of healthy living.  We have a garden to table program, where our youth learn how to plant herbs, fruits and vegetables; learn the nutritional value of them and then learn how to cook them properly to gain the maximum nutritional value.  We will start these classes in the Fall and they will be open to not just our youth, but hopefully the parents and community will become involved and support healthy nutrition for our children.
